Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump looked caught off guard on Wednesday after failing to guess who host Mika Brzezinski was identifying during an MSNBC town hall event.
“The candidate is considered a political outsider by all the pundits,” she began. “He’s tapping into all the anger of the voters, delivers a populist message. He believes everyone in the country should have healthcare. He advocates for hedge fund managers to pay higher taxes. He’s drawing thousands of people at his rallies and bringing in a lot of new voters to the political process, and he’s not beholden to any super PAC. Who am I describing?”
“Or any special interests or any donors,” he said, before replying, “You’re describing Donald Trump.”
“Actually, I was describing Bernie Sanders,” she said, prompting a laugh from the audience. Trump conceded that he did share one quality with the independent senator from Vermont, who is running for the Democratic Party nomination.
“He knows that our country is being ripped off big-league — big-league — on trade,” Trump argued. “The problem is he can’t do anything about it.”
The real estate mogul argued that Sanders “doesn’t understand” the problem.
“He’ll never be able to do anything about it,” Trump said.
