Bill Maher: Clinton and Sanders fans' attacks on one another 'is gonna be the death of liberals'

Bill Maher ended Friday's episode of Real Time by calling on supporters of both Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to work together for the common good.

"There are real enemies out there. Have you seen a Republican debate? The zombies are in the mall," he said. "This is gonna be the death of liberals: this nit-picky intramural attacking of friends for insufficient purity -- compulsively cleaning up that corner of the room that's already quite clean, while there are giant piles of sh*t everywhere else."

Maher explained that some of Sanders' supporters have pledged to refuse to vote for Clinton if she is the Democratic Party nominee, calling it the "Bernie or Bust" campaign. Instead, they urged progressives to vote for Green Party candidate Jill Stein, among other alternatives.

"On their website, they say they're revolting against the plutocracy," the host said. "No, actually you'll be helping elect a plutocrat who's revolting."

He also noted the harassment directed toward Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) by Sanders fans when she declined to endorse either candidate.

At the same time, he added, Clinton supporters -- and most notably Bill Clinton -- have accused the Sanders fans of online sexism, which he described as "pretty rich coming from a guy that's been known to grab your t*ts in person"
