Oklahoma Gov. Fallin vetoes bill turning abortion procedures into a felony

Published

on

Oklahoma’s Republican Governor Mary Fallin on Friday vetoed a bill that called for prison terms of up the three years for doctors who performed abortions, saying the legislation “would not withstand a criminal constitutional legal challenge.”

The bill, which was approved a day earlier in the Republican-dominated legislature, would have made performing an abortion a felony and also called for revoking the licenses of any doctor who conducted one.

The bill allowed an exemption for an abortion necessary to save the life of the mother.

“The bill is so ambiguous and so vague that doctors cannot be certain what medical circumstances would be considered ‘necessary to preserve the life of the mother,’” Fallin said, in a statement from her office, where she was described as “the most pro-life governor in the nation.”

Abortion rights groups had promised a bruising legal battle if the bill were signed into law, which would have hit the state with an expensive legal battle. Cash-strapped Oklahoma is battling a $1.3 billion budget hole.

‘Beyond insane’: CNN’s Ana Navarro buries impotent GOP as Trump descends into ‘messianic’ madness

Published

on

During a very lively CNN "New Day" panel, regular contributor Ana Navarro expressed disgust at the Republican Party for standing by while Donald Trump appears to be unraveling.

Responding to a report in the New York Times that claimed aides to the president are growing more and more concerned with the Trump's state of mind, Navarro said that same concern is spread outside of the U.S. too.

"We had a debate earlier in the program about whether or not the president at this point is just messing with everyone," host Alisyn Camerota prompted. "He's calling himself the 'chosen one.' He's suggesting he's the messiah. He seems to be enjoying this moment of rhetorical madness or Mr. Toad's Wild Ride -- do you see something else happening here?"

Former Tea Party congressman and Trump-supporter-turned-never-Trumper may announce 2020 presidential run

A same-party primary challenge against a sitting president is not unheard of. Five members of a sitting president’s party would be extraordinary.

Currently, only former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld has officially declared he is running for the Republican nomination for president.

But as The Washington Post just reported, there are four more Republicans in the wings, “inching” closer to declaring their candidacies.

Is it Trump’s god-complex or God’s Trump-complex? Either way Trump and Jehovah have an awful lot in common

People have been scratching their heads about how so many “family values” American voters who claim to love Jesus can follow Donald Trump. What ever happened to love thy neighbor, and if you have two coats give one to the poor, and turn the other cheek, and feed my lambs, and the meek shall inherit the Earth?  Some horrified Christian leaders have gone so far as to say a person can’t be a Christian and a Trump supporter.
