It looks like Fox News CEO Roger Ailes is about to get the ax.
New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman is reporting that the Murdoch family has decided to oust Ailes from Fox News in the wake of a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by longtime host Gretchen Carlson.
The Murdoch family hired the New York-based law firm of Paul, Weiss to run their own private investigation into Ailes’ alleged sexual misconduct at Fox News. The findings must not have been good, because Sherman’s sources say “James Murdoch is said to be arguing that Ailes should be presented with a choice this week to resign or face being fired.”
Rupert Murdoch and his other son Lachlan, however, apparently want to hold off on cutting ties with Ailes until after the Republican convention.
“They’re scared to death,” one Fox anchor tells Sherman about Ailes’s remaining loyalists at Fox. “The mood is bleak.”
As CNN’s Brian Stelter notes, 21st Century Fox has seen Sherman’s report, but has declined comment on it:

The full report is worth reading for all kinds of juicy details — for instance, it seems that Paul, Weiss are holding interviews with Fox employees at their offices because they suspect that the offices at Fox are bugged. Click here to check it out.
