Commentator Joy Reid blasted FBI Director James Comey on Sunday night's special edition of Hardball on MSNBC.
The director, she said, is supposed to be immune to political pressure. Comey should not have sent his letter to Congress about the emails on disgraced Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner's laptop before finding out if they were pertinent to the Clinton investigation.
As it turned out, they were materials that the FBI had already reviewed before and Comey said on Sunday that Clinton was again exonerated of wrongdoing.
Reid blasted the FBI for the double standard between the handling of the Clinton investigation and the investigation into Republican nominee Donald Trump's connections to Russia.
"But all he had to do," she said of Comey, "was behave the way that he himself and the FBI have behaved with regard to the Trump side. I believe that part of the problem here is the big difference between the way the FBI is treating what a lot of people believe are investigations into the Russian influences."
