Pat Cipollone testimony will potentially 'cement' Trump's 'criminal intent': CNN legal expert
July 07, 2022
Former White House counsel Pat Cipollone is set to testify in private on Friday before the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol riots, and attorney Paul Rosenzweig told CNN on Thursday that it could be pivotal in whether criminal charges are brought against former President Donald Trump.
Rosenzweig began his analysis by noting that it's unlikely Cipollone will deliver captivating bombshells that we've seen in past J6 Committee hearings, but he said he could still be a critical witness in the investigation.
"I think genuinely people like [former Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson] are probably more likely to break through and create interest than the probably pretty dry and guarded testimony of somebody like Mr. Cipollone," he said. "What is critical about Mr. Cipollone, though, his testimony will cement evidence of the seeming criminal intent of many of the actors. if your lawyer says, 'Don't do that, it is a crime,' and you go ahead and do it anyway, that's significant evidence not just for the January 6th Committee, but for potential prosecutions at the Department of Justice or elsewhere."
Hutchinson testified that Cipollone told her to not allow Trump to go to the Capitol on January 6th, as it likely would have resulted in criminal charges potentially related to obstructing an official act of Congress. She then alleged Trump desperately tried to go anyway before being blocked from doing so by the United States Secret Service.

If Cipollone were to confirm Hutchinson's account, it could go a long way toward proving Trump had criminal intent with his efforts to block the certification of the 2020 election.

'Incredibly bitter and angry': Filmmaker opens up about Trump kids' reaction to 2020 loss
July 07, 2022
On Thursday, Business Insider reported that Alex Holder, the British documentary filmmaker who went behind the scenes during former President Donald Trump's plot to overthrow the 2020 presidential election, revealed new details about how the former president's children reacted to his loss in private.
"Holder in a Tuesday interview with Insider described the seeing a 'mixture' of reactions among Trump's three eldest children: Ivanka, Eric, and Don Jr," reported Sophia Ankel.
"There was an attitude that one of them would give which was sort of incredibly bitter and angry about the end result," Holder said. "And then there were the other children who were totally in denial and would not even refer or discuss or engage with anything to do with the fact that they were no longer in the White House and the catastrophe that had taken place earlier."
Holder did not elaborate on which of the three children had which reactions.
"Trump's two eldest sons, Don Jr. and Eric, have vocally stood behind their father in his unfounded claims the election was stolen," the report noted. "In a string of text messages, first reported by CNN, Don Jr. encouraged former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to pursue 'multiple paths" to overturn his father's election loss. In a separate interview with The Independent, Holder said that Eric was unconcerned about potential violence from Trump supporters reacting to false claims of election fraud. In contrast, Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, stayed tight-lipped in the final weeks of Trump's presidency while slowly distancing themselves from the administration, according to The New York Times."
Holder's documentary, which is scheduled to air on July 10th on Discovery+, has gained significant publicity after the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riots subpoenaed his footage as part of their investigation.
This comes as Ivanka's conduct in the run-up to the January 6 attack has come under fresh scrutiny. She claimed in a deposition for the House January 6 Committee that she agreed with former Attorney General William Barr's assessment debunking Trump's conspiracy theories about the election, but privately in 2020, she said she believed Trump should "continue to fight" the election results.

Jan. 6 committee has already established Trump's direct links to the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers: reporter
July 07, 2022
The Jan. 6 committee has established that former President Donald Trump reached out to two close associates who had direct links to the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys extremist groups, and its next hearing is expected to further examine those links.
Cassidy Hutchinson testified last week that Trump directed his chief of staff Mark Meadows to call Mike Flynn and Roger Stone on the night before Jan. 6, 2021, and the former White House aide said she had to talk her boss out of going to the Willard Hotel, where Flynn and Stone were staying.
According to Guardian reporter Hugo Lowell, these revelations tie the former president closer to the insurrection plot.
“Guardian US: Trump seeking to contact Stone and Flynn on Jan. 5 is also notable since it was Trump himself who initiated the outreach — this was Trump seeking their input, not them freelancing to him things like strategies to overturn the 2020 election results.”— Hugo Lowell (@Hugo Lowell) 1657196808
"Trump seeking to contact Stone and Flynn on Jan. 5 is also notable since it was Trump himself who initiated the outreach," Lowell tweeted. "This was Trump seeking their input, not them freelancing to him things like strategies to overturn the 2020 election results."

Lowell went into further detail about his latest report on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" about those Trump links to militia groups whose leaders have been charged with seditious conspiracy, and how the House Select Committee will examine those ties at their upcoming hearing set for Tuesday.
"I think the connection is the clearest we have had today," Lowell said. "It is really significant. We spent a lot of time focusing on Trump's connections to John Eastman and Mark Meadows and this political plan to stop the certification on Jan. 6, but if you step back and look at what was happening on Jan. 5, Trump knew by then that his vice president was not going to play ball and stop the certification. You can get an insight into what his frame of mind was. He was trying to get his chief of staff to call around and see what the plans were for Jan. 6, Cassidy Hutchinson filled in the blank."
"He was ordering Meadows to call Stone and Mike Flynn," Lowell continued. "These are two figures with extensive ties to extremist groups. Roger Stone has close ties to the Proud Boys way before the election was called for Joe Biden. They worked very closely together, they were personal friends. Mike Flynn, meanwhile, has his own protective detail all the way back through December with the Oath Keepers. These are people you would go to if you wanted to know what the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were planning to do on Jan. 6. The committee now has this through-line from Trump and the White House to the extremist groups."
