While conservatives are warning of "Sharia Law" taking over the United States, others are urging for American society to be based on Biblical law.
Disgraced Judge Roy Moore, who was forced out after refusing to allow same-sex marriages in his state, is now running for the U.S. Senate in Alabama. Moore spoke at the North Jefferson County Republican Club in Gardendale about his positions and policies, according to WBHM.
The candidate told the Republican audience that America is an immoral society and the only way to fix it is a return to "God's law." Coincidently, he made the speech while the audience chowed down on pulled pork sandwiches, a violation of Leviticus 11:7 in Biblical Law.
“We’re talking about something that would actually decimate the morale of the military,” he claimed.
When a person in the audience asked Moore about Sharia Law, the irony seemed lost on him.
“False religions like Islam who teach that you must worship this way are completely opposite to what our First Amendment stands for," he answered.
Pulled pork sandwiches aside, one audience member agreed that it was exactly what the United States must return to.
“He sounds like what I was expecting and it just made me a little more sure that that’s who I’m wanting in there to help get us back on the right track,” the woman said.
A retired Navy Commander was still waffling.
“Well he kind of reminds me of Trump in a way, to be honest with you,” said Reggie Daniels. “He’s a fighter. And that could be good, that could be bad.”
The primary election for the GOP race is August 15. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) is also running in the race, though internal polling shows Moore to be the front-runner in the race, according to AL.com. Incumbent Sen. Luther Strange in also running.
"They're fighting for second place," Moore remarked.
