Homophobic and racist tweets force GOP Illinois governor to fire staffer on his first day
A staffer for Republican Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has been fired on the same day that homophobic tweets were uncovered in his Twitter timeline.
Chicagoist reports that former Rauner aide Ben Tracy was let go by the administration during his first day on the job after Politico reported that he had made several tweets that contained homophobic slurs.
“Bet you liked that, f*g,” Tracy wrote in one tweet.
“No, he’s a f**got,” he wrote in another.
Other tweets contained racially charged attacks on minorities.
“To the Indian people in the library: SHUT THE F*CK UP!” he wrote in one.
“There is a black dude and white girl on a date in this movie…white girls mom came along…haha not racist just funny,” he wrote in another.
The governor’s office was quick to distance itself from its short-lived employee.
“These tweets are unacceptable,” Rauner communications director Laurel Patrick told Chicagoist. “The individual in question is no longer an employee of our Administration.”
