As the news cycle continues to be dominated by revelations of Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer to acquire dirt on Hillary Clinton, a former ambassador to Russia is, like so many others, questioning Trump Jr.'s motives.
When asked by MSNBC's Katy Tur if the meeting failed to provide any lucrative intelligence (as Trump Jr. asserted), Michael McFaul, who served as American ambassador to Russia during President Barack Obama's two terms, said there's no way to know unless Trump Jr., Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner were all interviewed.
"I would love for somebody, maybe the FBI, to interview all the three Americans that were in that meeting -- interview them right now and individually before they check their stories with each other so we know for a fact there was nothing there," McFaul said.
McFaul said that at present, it still remains unclear what exactly came of that meeting, but the apparent motives behind it should matter.
"Maybe there wasn't anything, but most certainly, the intent to receive dirt on Hillary Clinton is very apparent just reading those e-mails," he said.
"We should sit down right away and interview, the Americans investigating this, the committees and the FBI, and figure out exactly what they learned in that meeting," McFaul concluded.
