Asian woman attacked in apparent hate crime while walking to protest against anti-Asian attacks

An Asian woman who was walking to a protest against anti-Asian violence this Sunday was repeatedly punched in the face by a stranger, Gothamist reports.
The unidentified man reportedly approached the woman and asked for her protest sign. He then took the sign and stomped on it. When the woman asked why he did that, the man punched her in the face twice and then fled to a nearby subway station.
<p>According to witness Rita Chan, the attack happened in full view of the woman's young daughter. </p><p>"You could see she was just numb. At one point, a woman approached her and gave her a cookie," Chan told Gothamist. "As soon she saw her mom being put on the gurney, that's when she started crying. It was heartbreaking."</p><p>The NYPD released video of the suspect, showing him wearing a red Chicago Bulls sweatshirt and carrying a camouflage backpack. </p>

<p>As Gothamist points out, New York saw a <a href="https://www.csusb.edu/sites/default/files/FACT%20SHEET-%20Anti-Asian%20Hate%202020%203.2.21.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">large uptick in reported hate crimes</a> against Asians last year. </p>

GOP senator pulls off 'rare feat' of getting a presidential pardon -- for his cousin: report

Of the six people who received pardons from Donald Trump and had ties to South Carolina, only one was related to one of the state's two GOP senators.
"In the waning days of Donald Trump's presidency, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott secured a pardon for a pastor he applauded for becoming a model citizen after being convicted in a cocaine bust in the 1990s. Less widely known: the man is Scott's cousin," The Post and Courier reported Monday.
<p>"Securing a presidential pardons is a rare feat. Some 143 pardons were issued by the Trump administration. Yet through leveraging his close relationship with Trump, Scott secured one of at least six forgiveness actions issued to people with South Carolina ties before Trump left the White House on Jan. 20," the newspaper explained.</p><p>The pardoned man's name is Otis Gordon.</p><p>"While the White House internally knew about their biological connection, Scott's office said, the Republican senator did not publicly acknowledge or announce Gordon was his blood kin or that he had been a longtime paid staffer with Scott's political campaigns," the newspaper reported. 'Kent State gun girl' roasted after she says carrot chopping makes her 'feel empowered as a woman'

A conservative gun activist was mocked on Monday after she said that being a "good housewife" makes her "feel empowered as a woman."
Kaitlin Bennett, who is known as the "Kent State gun girl" for open carrying an AR-15 while attending school, shared the anti-feminist screed on Instagram.
<p>"You know what makes me feel the most empowered as a woman?" she wrote. "It's not getting an abortion or rapping about wet a** 🐱. It's being a good housewife and cooking for my husband. 🍳 Don't fall for the lies of feminism."</p><p>She then offered several photos as proof of her "culinary skills."</p><p>One photo of Bennett chopping a carrot with a paring knife received attention on Twitter, with many people recalling that she had once <a href="https://www.salon.com/2018/03/25/how-a-diaper-protest-led-to-the-implosion-of-a-conservative-student-group/">worn a diaper to a protest</a>.</p><p>"Definitely her first time using a knife," one commenter wrote.</p><p>"Wrong knife, wrong cutting board, and scraps in the food pile," a person observed.
