Omarosa Manigault may be an old friend of President Donald Trump’s, but she hasn’t made any new ones in his White House.
According to multiple sources who spoke to The Daily Beast, Manigault is “isolated” in the West Wing as some of the more infamous aspects of her on-screen personality play out among White House staffers.
“Colleagues regularly complain about Manigault’s behavior and work ethic,” the report notes. “She frequently derails internal meetings with irrelevant or counterproductive interjections and she’s earned a reputation for attempting to micromanage White House communications operations.”
Trump reportedly “speaks to [Manigault] in the middle of the night” on the phone, and her proximity to the president has already become something of an issue to chief of staff John Kelly, who has tried to curtail her influence over the president.
“She doesn’t have any friends in high places—except the one place [where] it matters,” a GOP staffer close to the situation told the Beast.
“White House officials say that during meetings that include Manigault, aides will often take out their smartphones and start messaging each other saying they wished she would stop talking or leave the room entirely,” the report continues.
In such meetings, Manigault is regularly off-topic to the point of derailing, the Beast’s sources said.
“She would come [to meetings] and bring up random, off-topic stuff,” the source said. “She would raise issues and never have a solution.”
Sources close to the West Wing also said that Manigault, who is employed as an assistant to the president and communications head of the Office of Public Liaison, “doesn’t do much day to day” while still making $179,700 a year — the highest rate of pay for White House staffers.
