During a Republican National Committee meeting on Tuesday morning, Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff posited that the party could better unify around President Donald Trump if they "purge" those who oppose him.

According to audio obtained by Politico, Pence's chief of staff Nick Ayers asked rich donors to "imagine the possibilities of what can happen if our entire party unifies behind him? If — and this sounds crass — we can purge the handful of people who continue to work to defeat him."

Ayers, who has worked with Pence since his gubernatorial re-election campaign, told donors that they should push congresspeople to "change the current leadership in both the Senate and the House" by cutting off funding and threatening to recruit and give money to opponents.
