CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday reacted to Doug Jones’ victory in the Alabama Senate race, describing it as “a huge defeat for President Trump.”
“This is deep red Alabama,” Tapper explained. “President Trump made the calculation he was going to double down, he was going to stick with this candidate, the candidate who followed the Trump play book for when they are allegations against you: just deny them all and attack the people accusing you. And it failed.”
Tapper added: “It failed not only in an embarrassing way, it failed in one of the most Republican states that there is. A state so Republican the last time they elected to a Democrat to the Senate, two years later he changed parties and became Republican.”
