'But their emails!': Ari Melber turns anti-Hillary rallying cry on Trump as Mueller probes his transition
MSNBC chief legal correspondent and host of "The Beat with Ari Melber"

After Donald Trump enacted such a drawn-out hoopla over Hillary Clinton's private server emails, MSNBC host Ari Melber couldn't resist poking fun at revelations stemming from the president's own controversial online communications.

"For many commentators, the 2016 campaign boiled down to 'but her e-mails!' — a sardonic take on the obsession with Clinton's emails which, once reviewed, actually yielded very few major scandals," Melber said at the beginning of his Monday segment of The Beat.

Now, that "refrain may be turning to 'but their emails!' — tens of thousands of the Trump transition emails that [special counsel Robert] Mueller obtained," he continued.

Those emails, Melber continued, have been surprisingly controversial. A lawyer for President Donald Trump's transition team argued over the weekend that Mueller illegally obtained the email cache. In a rare public statement, Peter Carr, a spokesperson for the special counsel's office, said Mueller obtained the emails "either the account owner’s consent or appropriate criminal process."
