President Donald Trump thinks that he'll win again in 2020 because the so-called "fake news" and "liberal media" will line up behind him because without him their ratings will plummet.
"We’re going to win another four years for a lot of reasons, most importantly because our country is starting to do well again and we’re being respected again," he told The New York Times. "But another reason that I’m going to win another four years is because newspapers, television, all forms of media will tank if I’m not there because without me, their ratings are going down the tubes. Without me, The New York Times will indeed be not the failing New York Times, but the failed New York Times. So they basically have to let me win. And eventually, probably six months before the election, they’ll be loving me because they’re saying, 'Please, please, don’t lose Donald Trump.' O.K."
MSNBC host Joy Reid noted that Trump thinks of himself as the star of his own TV show," rather than the president of the United States. "He thinks people are still watching his TV show." Instead, Reid said that people are paying attention to Trump and watching the news because they're terrified of what might happen under his leadership.
"This is not a show," Reid continued. "You're the president of the United States...You are not a product on TV."
She also noted that Trump failed at business but managed to flourish by building up his personal brand with Page Six coverage and tabloids.
The idea that Trump garnered ratings is a theory brought up by many commentators who criticized Trump friend Jeff Zucker for covering rallies in 2016 constantly.
