Ted Cruz: Democrats killed my giveaway to homeschoolers because they are against people being 'really happy'
Ted Cruz speaks to Fox New (screen grab)

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Wednesday accused Democrats of killing a special tax deduction for homeschoolers because they are against happiness.

While appearing of Fox & Friends, Cruz said that Democrats were to blame after it was determined that his amendment allowing the deduction of homeschooling expenses violated Senate parliamentary rules and would have to be removed from the Republicans' tax bill.

"It's because the Democrats have an enormous antipathy towards homeschoolers," Cruz told Fox News. "The main argument the Democratic staff made against this is they said, 'Well, gosh, 529 plans are really, really popular -- people like them a lot. And if you extend them to homeschoolers, well, people are going to be really happy. That's going to make a difference in their lives. And we, the Democrats, don't want to see that happen on this bill so it needs to be cut out.'"

"Too popular," Fox News host Pete Hegseth agreed.

"The [Senate] parliamentarian bought that bogus argument," Cruz concluded.
