Trump’s UN threat backfires after Canada changes its vote to avoid being seen as his ‘puppet’: report

President Donald Trump on Wednesday issued a direct threat against countries that voted in favor of a United Nations resolution that condemned the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

“They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us,” Trump said of countries that planned to vote for the resolution. “Let them vote against us. We’ll save a lot. We don’t care.”

However, Trump’s threat seems to have already backfired, as Israeli reporter Barak Ravid says he’s received word that Canada will abstain from voting on the UN resolution after having previously planned to vote with the United States against it.

“Canada considered voting against the UNGA resolution on Trump’s Jerusalem announcement but changed vote to abstention after hearing Trump’s threats in order not to be perceived as US puppet, Western diplomats tell me,” Ravid reported.

Despite Trump’s threats, the UN General Assembly is still expected to vote overwhelmingly in favor of the resolution.

Even after the landslide defeat of Donald Trump, Republicans across the board continue to be terrified by Trump's disciples. While leading Republicans are in love with Trump's policies, not to mention the cover the Red Hats gave them to pass their agenda, they're privately disgusted by the president's total lack of personal restraint and constant self-sabotage.

Conservative National Review editor Rich Lowry is worried that Trump-loving conspiracy nuts could hand Democrats the Senate during next month's run-off elections in Georgia.

Writing at NRO's "The Corner" blog, Lowry points to recent comments made by President Donald Trump and Trump-backing attorneys Lin Wood and Sidney Powell that attack Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for following the law and certifying President-elect Joe Biden's win in the Peach State.

Trump allies relentlessly lobbied election officials in a mad scramble to reverse the president’s loss: report

On Tuesday, The New York Times podcast "The Daily" looked at how President Donald Trump has — unsuccessfully — tried to use the machinery of state and local government around the country to dismantle

"His team filed a litany of court cases in battleground states. In some, such as Georgia and Michigan, the president and his allies took an even more bullish approach, attempting to use their influence to bear down on election officials, even at the lowest levels of state government," said the report. "They have been relentless and tenacious in the efforts to transform the president’s fortunes. But the results have been immovable: Joe Biden is the president-elect."
