Although President Donald Trump lost the popular vote by millions in 2016, a conservative pundit argued to Fox Business on Monday that the president would defeat Oprah Winfrey with "70 percent" of the vote if she runs in 2020.
After Winfrey's Golden Globe speech sparked reports that she could run for president, Herbert London was quick to throw cold water on her alleged presidential ambitions.
While speaking to Fox Business host Stuart Varney, conservative think tank founder London predicted that Trump's approval ratings would skyrocket past the 30s where they were for the first year of his presidency.
"If you were looking an Oprah vs. President Trump," he continued. "I mean, there's no doubt in my mind. President Trump wins with 70 percent of the vote."
"He would trounce her," London said.
"What?" Varney exclaimed. "Oprah vs. Trump?"
Slightly backing off his claim, London rephrased his comment to mean Trump would win 70 percent of the Electoral College.
"He got 57 percent in the last election," he said. "He'd get 60-70 percent this time."
Varney wasn't buying that either.
"Well, Oprah Winfrey would win California and New York and New Jersey and Illinois and Connecticut and Massachusetts," Varney laughed.
"I mean, there's no doubt if you run Dumbo in those states, the blue state candidate is going to win," London said.
Sensing that his remarks could be taken the wrong way, London backtracked again: "I'm referring to an elephant, by the way. And that is a Republican symbol."
