After it was revealed that President Donald Trump called former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe's wife a "loser" for her unsuccessful state Senate bid in Virginia, the state's GOP couldn't resist taking a jab at their candidate's former opponent.

"With Andrew McCabe resigning, the score now stands at @SenRichardBlack 2 - @DrJillMcCabe (still) zero," the verified account tweeted, tagging the former deputy director's wife Jill McCabe and the Republican who won the seat.

The attack was soon circulated amongst Twitter politicos, many of which condemned it.

"Talk about petty and classless," national security lawyer Bradley P. Moss tweeted, linking to the Virginia GOP's post.

"This senator once said a play about a gay high school football player would lead to children getting HIV," CNN's Andrew Kaczynski noted.
