Tuesday's "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" featured a mock TV ad for a make-believe toy riffing off of Sen. Tammy Duckworth's (D-IL) response to President Donald Trump demand that Democrats clap for him.
“We don’t live in a dictatorship or a monarchy," Duckworth tweeted after Trump's speech in Ohio Monday. "I swore an oath—in the military and in the Senate—to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, not to mindlessly cater to the whims of Cadet Bone Spurs and clap when he demands I clap."
Duckworth was referring to Trump's five draft deferments he secured to avoid serving in Vietnam. Some deferments are unknown but the final was due to "heel spurs," which never made it's way into any other medical exams Trump has ever had.
"First, Hasbro brought you G.I. Joe. Then they brought you G.I. Joe with Kung Fu grip! Now get ready for Hasbro's new G.I. Joe character! Cadet Bone Spurs!" the ad began, showing the vintage commercial. The doll was a soldier dressed in camouflage like other G.I. Joes, but this one had a Trump head with perfectly coiffed hair.
"He would love to charge bravely into battle, it's just that he has this thing with his heel, which causes occasional, minor foot pain," the announcer says, showing the doll sitting in an armchair with ottoman on the battle field.
"We have to crush the enemy!" Cadet Bone Spurs said.
"Right! Let's go get them!" another G.I. Joe said.
"You go ahead, I have to ice my shin," Cadet Bone Spurs replied.
Trump has a long and complicated history with the military. In an interview with Howard Stern he called the 1990s HIV/AIDS crisis his "personal Vietnam," since he missed the war.
“I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world. It is a dangerous world out there. It’s scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam-era,” Trump said. “It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”
He's also criticized Gold Star families and mocked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for getting captured.
"Cadet Bone Spurs" will sadly not be available in stores.
