MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Tuesday seemed to be baiting President Donald Trump to ignore the advice of his attorneys and agree to an interview request from Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
The New York Times reported this week that lawyers for the president are advising him to refuse a "wide-ranging" interview with Mueller.
"His lawyers are concerned that the president, who has a history of making false statements and contradicting himself, could be charged with lying to investigators," the Times noted.
On Monday, Scarborough appeared to be directing his remarks about the interview directly at Trump, who is known to watch the show.
"He's president of the United States," Scarborough stated. "And I think [New York Congressman] Lee Zeldin and other people who think the president is too stupid to talk to Bob Mueller should keep their opinion to themselves. And I think his lawyers -- Donald Trump can speak for himself better than some pointy-headed lawyer."
Referring to two upcoming guests, the MSNBC host added, "They don't think the president's stupid like his own lawyers do."
"Why do the president lawyers think he's too stupid [to talk to Mueller]?" Scarborough concluded.
