‘Stop lying!’ Shouting match explodes on CNN as lawmakers are at each other's throats

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) erupted into a furious shouting match on CNN Wednesday, pointing fingers and trading personal insults as their discussion of President Donald Trump’s agenda spiraled into an on-air confrontation.

The explosive exchange unfolded a day after Republicans suffered bruising midterm election losses, with the two lawmakers seated beside each other as they clashed over Trump’s war in Iran, tariffs and congressional gridlock.

Crenshaw accused Democrats of deliberately blocking bipartisan legislation ahead of the elections to deny Republicans a political victory.

“You guys cynically blocked legislation, bipartisan legislation,” Crenshaw insisted. “Do not lie and say anything different, all right?”

But the confrontation then took an ugly turn as Crenshaw pointed his finger toward Raskin’s face and repeatedly shouted, “Stop! Stop! Stop!” while the two talked over each other.

“Are you capable of doing anything but talking in talking points? Do you actually have facts?” Crenshaw demanded. “I’m reading bills. I’m doing actual policy discussion. You’re just yelling. Are you confused?”

Raskin countered by accusing Trump of enriching himself while in office.

“You know that Donald Trump collected $2.2 billion from foreign governments, kings, princes, and crypto interests on the side, in his first year in office, more than $1 million an hour,” Raskin said.

“He’s dragged your whole party down,” the top Democrat added. “Abraham Lincoln created your party, Donald Trump destroyed your party, and you went down with him.”

Crenshaw, who was defeated in his primary election, brushed off the attack, insisting he was “doing great.”

“You lost, didn't you?” Raskin said as CNN’s Dana Bash attempted to move the conversation along.

“You seem a little flustered, buddy,” Crenshaw responded.

The confrontation intensified again when Raskin accused Trump of launching an unconstitutional war without congressional authorization.

“Stop lying to the American people,” Raskin demanded.

“Have you been to war?” Crenshaw shot back.

The CNN host repeatedly attempted to intervene as the lawmakers talked over each other throughout the fiery back-and-forth. But as Bash attempted to cut to a commercial break, Crenshaw and Raskin continued exchanging jabs.

“I’m very invested in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights,” Raskin said.

“I’m invested in intellectual discussions,” Crenshaw concluded.
