After two Republicans claimed President Donald Trump's campaign promise to make Mexico pay for his border wall were clear metaphors, CNN's Anderson Cooper played a supercut of the president making the claim to massive applause.

Echoing Republican strategist Alice Stewart, who said she and most other GOP operatives knew it wouldn't play out that way, Trump supporter and former GOP operative Rob Astorino said that fellow fans of the president knew he wasn't speaking literally.

"Look, you know, that was a metaphor," Trump supporter Rob Astorino said. "Most people understood that Mexico wasn't going to pay for the wall."

To prove him wrong, Cooper ran the supercut, which featured a number of clips of Trump fans appearing to believe the then-Republican candidate's claim.

"It's very unclear to me," Astorino said, laughing.
