A Republican state congressional candidate in Maine this week attacked Parkland shooting survivors during an angry rant on Twitter.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Leslie Gibson, a Republican candidate for Maine's 57th congressional district, attacked 18-year-old Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez, who has been particularly outspoken about the need for stronger gun laws in the wake of the shooting at her school that took the lives of 17 people.

"There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you’re a frothing at the mouth moonbat," Gibson wrote of Gonzalez.

Gibson also attacked Gonzalez's classmate David Hogg, whom he called "a bald faced liar" for saying that the National Rifle Association "owned" Republican lawmakers.

"Dana Loesch ‘owns’ Congressmen? Completely absurd," he wrote. "Hogg doesn’t get a pass when he blatantly lies."

Gibson eventually apologized to Gonzalez for his attacks on her, and then subsequently made his both his personal and campaign Twitter accounts private.

"I would like to extend to you my most sincere apology for how I addressed you," Gibson wrote to her. "It was wrong and unacceptable. You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and understanding to you."
