A new report indicates that President Donald Trump is becoming so unnerved by special counsel Robert Mueller's probe that he intends to start personally attacking him on a regular basis.
Sources tell the Daily Beast that Trump's angry tweets directed at the Mueller probe are no fluke -- rather, they're part of Trump's desire to undermine the investigation's credibility.
"The president, those close to him say, is determined to more directly confront the federal probe into his campaign’s potential role in alleged Russian election interference, even if it means exacerbating his legal standing," the publication reports. "Two sources who speak regularly with Trump said they had noticed an uptick in recent months in the frequency of the annoyance the president would express regarding Mueller and his team, and the irritation at the deluge of negative news stories regarding the probe."
The president is reportedly particularly annoyed that Mueller's team has issued subpoenas to the Trump Organization for documents related to deals it has done in Russia.
Former Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), who is one of Trump's most reliable defenders on cable news, tells the Daily Beast that even he feels worried about the president personally going after Mueller in the middle of an investigation.
"It’s an area full of landmines, so tread carefully," Kingston said.
