A New York Republican shouted "fake news" while cutting off an interview when asked about her recorded comments drawing links between mass shooters and the Democratic party.
The Huffington Post on Monday reported that Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) attempted to clarify her claim that "so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats" on an Albany talk radio show after the Parkland mass shooting — only to get frustrated and end the interview.
"Did you listen to what I said?" Tenney asked her interviewer. "They're not false statements."
"You don't wanna hear a truthful answer, you don't wanna know that this problem occurs across all sectors with all kinds of people," she claimed. "It isn't just Republicans who commit all these terrible crimes."
Rep. Tenney, who just announced her re-election bid yesterday, went on to deride the "relentless" and "vicious" attacks against gun owners as the impetus for her statistically false comment.
When asked again about the claim that mass shooters "end up" being Democrats, Tenney decided to cut the interviewer off.
"It is fake news! I answered your question every which way, it is fake news,” she concluded. “Bye. Done. It’s ridiculous."
The most recent mass shooter, Nikolas Cruz, was once photographed wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat and reportedly carved swastikas into his rifle magazines before killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Valentine's Day.
