The controversy surrounding Women's March co-founder Tamika Mallory erupted on ABC's "The View" on Friday, as conservative Meghan McCain clashed with progressive Joy Behar over Mallory's recent praise of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who is a notorious homophobe and anti-Semite.
During the show, McCain called out Mallory for posting a photo of Farrakhan online in which she called him the "greatest of all time." She also pointed out that the same criticisms leveled against the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) for inviting racists and conspiracy theorists to its annual conference.
"Remember when we had a conversation about how CPAC was Nazi friendly?" McCain asked. "Louis Farrakhan said, 'Hitler was a very great man.' This is black and white. It's simple: You think Hitler is a great man, don't associate with that person. There should be no normalizing of this one way or the other."
Host Joy Behar offered a tepid defense of Mallory by noting that everyone has some "baggage" in their past statements and viewpoints. However, McCain said toleration for such "baggage" shouldn't extend to support for Farrakhan.
"My baggage isn't that I think Hitler is a great man!" she said.
"There are limits to the baggage," Behar admitted.
