A national day of silence will be held on April 27. The day honors those who have been harassed, and, or died because of their sexual orientation.
National Day of Silence was created by a GLSEN, a pro-LGBT group. During the day High Schools and Middle Schools are asked to remain silent and and some teacher might even prepare lessons around LGBT issues.
The American Family Association, is calling for christian parents to protest the Day of Silence and remove their children from school.
In a statement released earlier this week, The American Family Association, said: "Although the adult activists claim that the "Day of Silence" (DOS) is put together by 'students,' it is in fact organized behind the scenes by adults with the enthusiastic cooperation of school officials. They use materials and instructions from a national homosexual activist group."
The group is calling for parents to stand up for their students' rights. They are encouraging parents to take part in The 'Day of Silence' Walk Out.
The American Family Association is concerned that schools are becoming too politicized. A statement from AFA said: "Please join the national effort to reclaim a proper understanding of the role, and limits of public education, the Help de-politicize the learning environment by calling your child out of school if your child's school allows students and/or teachers to refuse to speak during instructional time on the Day of Silence."
Their website also lists out resources and information that parents can study to understand their child's rights in school.
