An Australian ableist named David Lawson posted some very dumb thoughts about disabled people to Twitter yesterday. Specifically, he questioned why disabled people would need to use a vehicle outside banker's hour.
"Disabled parking should only be valid during business hours 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. I cannot see any reason why people with genuine disabilities would be out beyond these times," he wrote.
Jennifer Lee Rossman, a sci-fi writer and geek who uses a wheelchair because of spinal muscular atrophy, had the perfect response.
"We're disabled, Daniel, we're not werewolves," she wrote in a post that has now been liked more than 100,000 times.
Lawson should have then shut up but didn't, posting viscous attacks on people who responded.
One man said he might like to get ice cream after business hours. Lawson accused him of "cruising of public toilets."
Lawson—who also tweets anti-Muslim statements regularly— has been reporting accounts who attack him while saying that he will "not be bulled by a gang of losers in mobility scooters" and using the hashtag #bulletproof.
