The Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. area has seen massive downpours over the last 24 hours with more rain in sight. This was before tropical storm Alberto even made landfall in Florida.
While it isn't clear if Alberto will add even more rain later this week, a small Maryland town experienced so much rain that flood waters carried cars down their downtown streets. Some areas have seen as much as 6 inches of rain an hour.
Anyone who is outside around Ellicott City should find higher ground NOW. Another round of rain is coming in. https://t.co/9vOT3Hg4AT— Capital Weather Gang (@Capital Weather Gang)1527460298.0
This weekend's storm marks the second time in the past two years that Ellicott City suffered under a significant flood. However, many residents believe that this flooding was far worse than the July 30, 2016 storm.
Authorities have asked everyone, including the media, to get to higher ground as soon as possible.
The Baltimore area should be dry for the next several days.
