President Donald Trump on Thursday marked the one-year anniversary of the Mueller probe by issuing a bizarre tweet in which he accused Democrats of colluding with Russia.
"Congratulations America, we are now into the second year of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History... and there is still No Collusion and No Obstruction," the president wrote. "The only Collusion was that done by Democrats who were unable to win an Election despite the spending of far more money!"
Mueller was appointed as special counsel last May 17 after Trump abruptly fired former FBI Director James Comey and the White House issued multiple, contradictory explanations for his firing.
Since Mueller's appointment, he has secured guilty pleas from former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, as well as from former Trump campaign aides Rick Gates and George Papadopoulos, for lying to the FBI. Mueller has also indicted former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on money laundering charges, and has filed indictments against multiple Russian nationals for committing fraud as part of a conspiracy to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
