President Donald Trump's counselor Rudy Giuliani announced Sunday that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation in to the president will conclude September 1, 2018. Mueller has not verified this
In an interview with CNN, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) said that he doesn't buy it that Mueller promised anything to Trump or his legal team.
"I do not Ana," the Judicial Committee Democrat told CNN's Ana Cabrera about whether he believes the former New York mayor. "I know that Giuliani makes things up and then has to correct things later. It would surprise me if Mueller could promise a date certain by which this investigation will conclude. This is a very complicated investigation with lots of open inquiries. So, I don't think it would wrap up by September, and if you remember the former White House attorney for Donald Trump also saying 'Oh, this investigation is going to keep ramping up.' It still hasn't."
Lieu noted that it's entirely possible that Mueller could have promised that as a way to get Trump to agree to be interviewed. However, the interview could bring up even more issues that would need to be addressed. As a former prosecutor, Lieu said that it is almost impossible to decide when an investigation would end.
