Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) lashed out at state Rep. Patricia Todd (D) on Wednesday after the Democratic lawmaker suggested that the governor is hiding her sexual orientation.
Todd, who is openly gay, posted messages to Facebook and Twitter, saying that she was "sick of closeted elected officials." Todd also alleged that Ivey's secret girlfriend was forced to move out after she became governor.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ivey called the rumor "disgusting."
"This is a disgusting lie being pushed by a paid liberal political hack. There is absolutely no truth to it," the statement said.
