A South Carolina man, Brandon Lecroy, 25, is facing federal charges after plotting to kill his black neighbor, reports Post and Courier News.

The FBI started investigating Lecroy after a private source claimed he tried to hire a white supremacist group to murder his black neighbor.

An undercover agent worked with Lecroy to verify the claims. Lecroy told the agent "$500 and he's a ghost." He also instructed the agent to leave a "flaming cross" in the yard and "hang his neighbor from a tree."

Lecroy even met with the agent and put down an $100 down payment for the crime.

He was arrested that same day. A judge orderd him to psychiatric examination. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
