#MeToo men are trying to make a comeback -- this veteran journalist has a better idea
Barbara Ehrenreich

The list of powerful men who've had to resign amidst allegations of abuse seems endless and seemingly without political bias: from right-wing political operatives like Trump official Rob Porter, to media stars like Charlie Rose, to progressive stalwarts like former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Even as the roster of crumpled careers expands, some of the men have reported planning comebacks, most notoriously Charlie Rose, who wanted to interview men toppled by the #metoo movement.

In an article published in the current issue of Baffler magazine called Patriarchy Deflated, veteran journalist Barbara Ehrenreich has a somewhat vivid counter-idea for what should happen instead.

First, she has some advice for women trying to navigate the world.

"So, what is a twenty-first century woman to think as she picks her way through the rubble of patriarchy?" Ehrenreich writes. "First, she should laugh out loud at every instance of male and class-based pomposity she encounters, remember that the president—or the esteemed artist or academic—likes to wag his penis at women in private. She should recall that the Wizard of Oz is an evil clown but still a clown."

Then Ehrenreich metes out a somewhat vicious punishment.

"Then she might consider a suitable punishment for our dethroned patriarchs. Maybe they should be confined to one big locked room stocked with high-tech sex toys and left to fuck themselves sick."
