House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes requested to hold General Jeff Sessions in contempt of Congress.

Nunes first made the threat in an interview with Fox & Friends.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, has remained neutral on the situation. AshLee Strong, spokeswoman for Ryan said: "This is not something the chairman has discussed with the speaker."

Republicans have not collectively shown support for Sessions. Texas Republican, Mike Conaway, said that it was too early and called it a "premature" effort.

"We expect our subpoenas to be complied with and we'll see what happens," Conaway said.

Utah Republican, Chris Steward, said that he sees no problem with moving forward.

"I would support whatever tools we have available," Stewart said. "There's no reason in the world for this information not to be available."

Nunes requested a contempt because Sessions failed to turn over materials related to the Russian probe. Nunes called the request "very important."

However, The Department of Justice is hesitant to honor the request. The DOJ said that releasing the documents could comprise the ongoing investigation and put sources in harm's way. The DOJ is currently seeking alternative ways to honor Nunes request.
