While President Donald Trump was promising to drain the swamp, Michael Cohen was using his relationship with the White House to cash in.
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that federal prosecutors are investigating whether Cohen engaged in secret lobbying. It was uncovered in May that Cohen scored hefty cash from at least four companies, including Novartis, AT&T, Korea Aerospace and Columbus Nova. Cohen obtained $1.2 million from Novartis and at least $200,000 from AT&T. The grand total of the money earned is upwards of $1.8 million in 2017 and early 2018.
Doing so may have violated federal disclosure laws without filing to be a registered lobbyist. Prosecutors have reached out to the companies that hired Cohen for information, sources close to the investigation told The Journal.
