Off-duty Fresno cop investigated for shooting and killing driver in his car after road rage incident

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is looking into an incident in which an off-duty police officer allegedly shot a man following an altercation classified as a "road rage incident," reports the AP.

Office spokesman Tony Botti issued a statement that the Orange Cove officer and the unidentified man got in a heated argument.

The officer then fired his handgun into the man’s car. He died in the hospital.

Police officials disclosed that the victim had prior road rage incidents, according to KFSN.

"So we were able to track down the victims of all of those, and it appears the vehicle that was involved was involved in all of those incidents, the road rage incidents," said Lt. Jose Salinas, Fresno Co. Sheriff's Office.

The name of the officer has not been released.
