President Donald Trump issued an apparent threat against a Democratic lawmaker who issued a call to shame and harass administration officials in public.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) called for a campaign to make Cabinet officials feel unwelcome in public as a form of resistance to Trump policies, and the president misrepresented her remarks and warned her to be careful.

"Congresswoman Maxine Waters, an extraordinarily low IQ person, has become, together with Nancy Pelosi, the Face of the Democrat Party," Trump tweeted. "She has just called for harm to supporters, of which there are many, of the Make America Great Again movement. Be careful what you wish for Max!"

The California Democrat called on supporters to pester and shame officials after a Virginia restaurant owner refused to serve White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

"If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they're not welcome anymore, anywhere," Waters said.
