WATCH: City council meeting erupts over councilman who used ‘hood lingo’ to mock black shooting victims

A city council member in Lorain, Ohio, was on the receiving end of angry protests this week because he’d used what he called the “lingo of the hood” to make fun of black victims of criminal violence.

In a Facebook post last month, Lorain City Councilman Dennis Flores complained about hearing police sirens early in the morning at his home, which he said happen “like clockwork.”

He then made fun of someone getting shot as part of a drug deal using slang words stereotypically associated with black Americans.

“Brothaz be at da club spending weedz man’s money, mf’er ‘N’ you got my money?” he wrote. “POP, POP, POP POP cuz that’z how we roll in So Lo.”

Local news station Fox 8 Cleveland reports that many black residents protested against Flores during this week’s council meeting, even though he issued a formal apology for his remarks.

“Dennis Flores, you hold a leadership position in this community,” Lorain resident Inez James told the council. “I am here today because leaders do not deserve a pass for making racist comments that mock, disrespect, stereotype and belittle other cultures and businesses.”

When asked by Fox 8 Cleveland why he had chosen the words he did to mock black people getting shot, Flores replied that “that’s how they talk” and “that’s lingo in the hood.”

Published

President Donald Trump appeared to reveal another quid pro quo during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell pointed it out during an interview with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA).

"I was very nice to Mayor de Blasio. I got him ventilators when he needed them... I got him the gowns. I got him the masks. I got him everything. Then he throws a big Black Lives Matter sign right down in the middle of Fifth Avenue. I was so good to him and to Gov. Cuomo, like nobody's ever been good.
