Comedian John Cleese played a friendly game of "catch the idiot" on Sunday, when he got into a strange exchange with fans on Twitter.
"Well done Belgium !! Many congratulations to the lazy, fat bastards on taming the silky Brazilian minnows !! Kudos, especially after being outplayed for 65 minutes by the tiny, sushi-guzzling, bandy-legged Nipponfolk," tweeted Cleese on Saturday.
A fan responded, tweeting, "Well, it's the nicest he's been to us so far. I call it progress."
"What kind of wop, dago or wog are you, Sunshine?" Cleese responded. "Don't try to ingratiate yourself with me..."
Hours later, another person, seemingly unaware of the context, accused the comedian of racism.
"Are the Monty Python team having a 'who can say the most racist thing' competition this week?" the person asked.
That was when Cleese explained he was playing "catch the idiot."
That was when someone pulled out the "s" word, responding with "snowflakes."
"Yes I've heard this word. I think sociopaths use it in an attempt to discredit the notion of empathy," the comedian said.
