Nikolas Cruz paid $560 for the AR-15 he allegedly used to kill seventeen people in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, according to a transcript of a video recording introduced at his trial.

In the video, Cruz told Detective John Curcio that he purchased the firearm at a gun store. He paid $200 for each of the magazines he used, and ordered them online, according to the transcript.

"What made you choose out of all the guns to want to buy a AR-15?" Detective Curcio asked.

"Cool looking," Cruz replied.

Throughout the interrogation, Cruz references suffering from depression, isolation and loneliness and spinning further out of control upon the death of his mother from pneumonia.

In 2017, the NRA celebrated the AR-15 as "gun of the year."
