Far-right Republican candidate Kelli Ward was hilariously slammed by The Washington Post after losing her second U.S. Senate campaign in two years.
In 2016, Ward resigned her state senate seat to campaign full-time against Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in the GOP primary. Ward lost by over 10 percentage points.
On Tuesday, Ward again lost a Senate bid after losing the Arizona primary to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ). Ward is trailing by over 20 percentage points with votes continuing to be counted.
In a morning-after analysis by Aaron Blake, The Post said, "a uniquely bad and desperate candidate named Kelli Ward went down in flames."
The newspaper explained that, "Ward stands out for having consciously made poor tactical decisions, over and over again. While some candidates succumb to one incident, Ward seemed determined to pepper them throughout her campaign."
"Where Ward differed was how absolutely ham-handed she went about all of that," the analysis continued. "Her campaigns often looked more like caricatures of what we’d expect from a tea party/alt-right primary challenger."
