CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin on Thursday unloaded on Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) for refusing to take concrete action to slow down the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh — even as he made yet another speech before the Senate that pleaded for civility.
“Jeff Flake is an extraordinary political coward,” he said during a CNN panel discussion of Kavanaugh’s nomination. “He gave a nauseating speech yesterday, I thought. He goes on the Senate floor to inform the other 99 senators that the people involved here are human beings. Like, no kidding, right?”
Toobin went on the shred Flake’s pleas for civility as a mere “act” to bolster his own reputation, even as he does nothing to check a presidency that he himself believes is a danger to the country.
“His act of being an agonized nice guy — when he has voted lockstep with Donald Trump on absolutely everything — is really just such a tired act,” he fumed. “Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) had the political courage to turn on President Trump when it came to the Affordable Care Act… they have been profiles in political courage, Jeff Flake has been the opposite.”

Bill Barr is acting as ‘the president’s lawyer’ against the agency he is supposed to be leading: Ex-FBI deputy director
On Tuesday's edition of CNN's "OutFront," former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe excoriated Attorney General William Barr for trying to poison public perception of the FBI — even as his own department's inspector general debunked right-wing conspiracies of an FBI-centric "deep state" working to bring down President Donald Trump.
"The attorney general of the United States is saying others, but also you, acted in bad faith," said anchor Erin Burnett.
"That's absolutely false," said McCabe. "It didn't happen. I know that. I didn't need the IG to tell me that. But it's good the IG reported there is no situations of that what so far."
CNN’s Toobin rips into Bill Barr’s ‘out of control’ attacks on the FBI: ‘Such outrageous behavior’
On Tuesday's edition of CNN's "The Situation Room," chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin blasted Attorney General William Barr for his ongoing attempts to undermine the inspector general report clearing the FBI of Republican conspiracy theories.
"Bill Barr is going to keep investigating the FBI until someone condemns him the way he wants it and the way people on Fox News want it," said Toobin. "This is such outrageous behavior by the attorney general. And he's even dragging down with him John Durham, who had a good reputation as a U.S. Attorney in Connecticut who is doing the next investigation of this, and he comes out of nowhere with an incomplete investigation and disparages Horowitz's report yesterday."
CNN panel crushes Bill Barr’s Ukraine lies with live fact check: ‘He doesn’t have a right to his own opinion’
Attorney General Bill Barr was called out by a CNN panel on Tuesday after he incorrectly said that the FBI ignored evidence that would have exculpated President Donald Trump's campaign regarding allegations of Russian collusion.
As Barr spoke live to The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday afternoon, a panel of CNN analysts commented on the attorney general's utterances.
"In general, he said, from day one there was evidence that was exculpatory evidence that there was no collusion and the FBI ignored that," CNN's Dana Bash announced. "Let's just start with that. True or false?"
