Hawaii Democrat Mazie Hirono blasts GOP 'hell or high water' rush to confirm accused sexual predator Kavanaugh

At an event supporting Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Ford on Thursday, Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono mercilessly attacked her Republican counterparts for rushing 'hell or high water' to confirm accused sexual predator Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Republicans on the Judiciary committee have steadfastly refused to ask the FBI to look into the claims of Dr. Ford, who says that when she was 15, Kavanaugh forced her onto a bed, tried to tear off her clothes, and held his hand over her mouth to prevent her from crying for help, as his friend looked on.

"We have not created an environment where women like Dr. Ford can come forward and be supported in a respectful way. That is not what is happening," Hirono said. "What is happening with the judiciary committee is really, I would call it a railroad job. It's totally unfair."

Hirono outlined the David and Goliath scenario facing Ms. Ford, who was involuntarily outed as a sexual assault survivor. "You have the entire force of the presidency and all of the supporters of Judge Kavanaugh in the senate, arrayed on one side and on the other side, you have Dr. Ford who doesn't even have the benefit of an FBI investigation as we all have called for," Hirono said. "How unfair is that?"

As Ford's fellow alumni unveiled a letter signed by 1,000 fellow classmates in her support, Hirono continued to blast Judiciary Republicans. She also begged the press for help.

"I'm counting on the members of the press to point out that this is a fast track," she said. "They are totally intent on getting Judge Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court come Hell or high water. Come Hell or high water." Hirono also took a dig at the nominee himself asking, "why isn't Judge Kavanaugh asking for an FBI investigation if he has nothing to hide?"
