Jim Carrey appeared on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday night to talk about his new television project and his art.
Maher said he'd wanted to book Carrey forever, and joked about the fact that he was plugging a show on HBO's arch-rival Showtime.
"It took me forever to get you here, but I knew it would happen," Maher said.
During the interview, Carey said he would love to connect with Trump supporters.
"We've got to get back to a place where we realize that a vote is not who you are," Carrey said. "Because you voted for Republican doesn't mean you're stupid, you're not different, you're not worthless. I could break bread with anybody who voted for Trump right now. We could come up with common ground and a reason to love each other. Just stop doing stupid sh*t!"
But Carrey said that Trump took over a country that was united that's now fighting bitterly.
"He's tearing us limb from limb," Carrey said. "He's a car sales man. He's a used car salesman. He didn't make America great again but he did turn back the odometer."
