Local reporter mocks Trump-backed GOP candidate for calling him 'fake news' — and then verifying the story is true

After attacking two journalists for reporting "fake news," Trump-endorsed Nevada congressional candidate Danny Tarkanian appeared to confirm the very claims he called false.

Nevada Independent editor Jon Ralston tweeted Monday that Tarkanian accused him and Las Vegas-based CBS reporter Steve Sebelius of peddling in fake news.

Tarkanian accused Ralston of making false claims when he reported on August 31 that the National Republican Congressional Committee decided to spend money on the Republican candidate running in the neighboring congressional district over his because he was polling poorly.

Just two paragraphs down, however, the candidate appears to acknowledge that the claim is true.

"There are 3 and possibly 4 outside different groups financially supporting candidates in Congressional races," Tarkanian's newsletter reads. "One group may support one race and another group a different race."

"Time to find new meds?" Ralston joked on Twitter.

The NRCC's decision to pull funding for low-polling candidates is far from limited to Tarkanian. The day before Ralston's report roiled the Trump-backed candidate, Politico reported that the NRCC was taking funds away from "vulnerable" candidates across the country.
