President Donald Trump was likely watching former top aide Steve Bannon during his Monday interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

Promoting his pro-Trump documentary, Bannon warned that the New York Times op-ed from the anonymous White House official is an outright coup d'etat.

"I think those books or the anonymous column -- it is quite evident that President Trump — there is a coup," he said. "I mean, there is a coup, saying there was a coup by General McClellan and his senior leadership in the union army to try to thwart what Abraham Lincoln wanted to do in the I might have an exact type of coup right now."

He said that the anonymous letter was outrageous and that Trump should take action immediately.

"I think the president ought to take immediate and direct action to find out who the conspirators are," Bannon continued. "I don’t think there is any one author, I think there is an author. I think there is somebody who drafted it, there are many voices in there. I think you can tell the weight is written. I think it is a much broader conspiracy than people think. I think it is six to a dozen people and I think you ought to immediately start to do what Andrew Jackson did, do what Abraham Lincoln did, find out who is responsible, and fire them."
