Craighead County Justice of the Peace Billie Sue Hoggard was fined and warned by the Arkansas Ethics Commission after failing to disclose gifts from her trip to the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Hoggard flew to the convention that nominated Donald Trump on a private plane provided by Chad Niell, the owner of prison contracting company Tiger Correctional Services, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports.
Hoggart was serving as the chair of the Craighead County Republican Committee at the time. Niell was serving as vice chair.
Max Brantley, columnist for the Arkansas Times, described the $50 fine as a "touch on [the] wrist."
"BFD. $50 is going to make people obey the law?" he wondered.
Justice of the Peace Hoggard directly oversees Tiger Correctional Services' contract with Craighead County.
