Former Republican lawmaker Rick Santorum tried to blame Democratic donor George Soros for the caravan of immigrants currently headed toward the United States -- but he was quickly shut down by host John Berman.
During a discussion on President Donald Trump's latest efforts to falsely accuse Democrats of being behind the caravan, Santorum claimed that many Democrats do bear some blame because their immigration policies are supposedly encouraging more immigrants to come to the United States.
"I think what he is saying is the Democrats are out there calling for open borders and calling..." Santorum began.
"They are not calling for open borders," Berman shot back.
"They are!" Santorum insisted. "I was on Chris's show last night and I was on with somebody that is basically saying everybody that comes to the border should have an opportunity to come into America."
Berman once again pointed out that no Democrat is campaigning for open borders, but Santorum insisted that the caravans were being funded by George Soros.
"Let's be honest, Democratic funders, like Soros, are funding the caravans for political purposes," Santorum said, without offering any evidence.
"Is President Obama deploying the National Guard in 2010 -- is that open borders?" Berman shot back.
"Well no, I'm not saying President Obama was arguing for open borders," Santorum conceded.
"Open borders is not a real thing," Berman said. "No one is calling for open borders."
